Penguins Captain Hits Major Milestone with Epic Hat Trick Win Over Dallas
Sidney Crosby was in vintage form today as he lifted the Penguins to a 5-3 victory over the Dallas Stars, setting another major career milestone.
The Pittsburgh Penguins enjoyed a feel-good win today thanks to a four-point effort from their captain Sidney Crosby.
The 37-year-old was the star of the game as he beat Stars netminder
Casey DeSmith twice, adding an assist for a three-point night but he wasn't quite done just yet.
In the last minute of the 3rd period, the Stars attempted to tie the game with the goalie pulled, putting a mad scramble of shots on net.
Crosby found a loss puck that came off a blocked shot from
Matt Duchene, firing it down the ice from just a few feet in front of his own net and hit the bullseye for his fourth point of the night and the hat trick.
Crosby came into the contest with 27 goals on the season, so the hat trick gives him an even 30, the 13th time in his 20-year career that he has hit that mark despite the fact that he has always been more of a playmaker than a goal scorer, showing just how good he is overall.
All of this just goes to show that there is nothing Crosby can't do. Except maybe carry the Penguins into the playoffs.
After all, hockey is still a team sport and Crosby is only on the ice roughly a third of the time.
Even with 85 points in 75 games, the Penguins are still seven points out of a playoff spot with just 10 points left available in their five remaining games.
That being said, if he can continue to play this well over the next few years, maybe he will still be with the team by the time they are back in playoff contention.
