Penguins Fans Stunned by NHL Insider's Take on Crosby's Future
The future of Pittsburgh Penguins franchise icon Sidney Crosby remains the subject of debate, and per a new report from analyst Frank Seravalli, his future could depend on longtime teammate Evgeni Malkin.
The Pittsburgh Penguins aren't expected to be going anywhere fast, especially after missing the playoffs for the last 3 years in a row.
The 3-year drought marks the longest periods of the careers of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin without the playoffs, and this year isn't expected to be any different, especially after Mike Sullivan was replaced by former New York Rangers assistant Dan Muse.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Frank Seravalli, Crosby is expected to continue his career with the Penguins for at least another year, coinciding with the remainder of the contract of Malkin.
Malkin signed for another year, which many expect to be his
final year in the NHL. Meanwhile, Crosby is signed for 2 more years.
Frank Seravalli: Re Sidney Crosby: Crosby has been focused on playing out this run with Evgeni Malkin; I don't see this being an in season trade; if it's gonna happen, eventually, being the keyword, it would be in an offseason...definitely not this one - Bleacher Report (Jul 15)
Crosby and Malkin have played together since 2006, and have been two of the best players in team history in a similar fashion to Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr.
The Penguins aren't realistically expected to compete for a playoff spot, leading many to believe that Crosby could request a trade out of town to try and chase another Stanley Cup before he retires.
