The Penguins made some underrated moves at the deadline, and now, Connor Dewar has addressed his season after being a fantastic acquisition from Kyle Dubas.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had an overall disappointing run in 2024/25, missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season, but in that time, there were certainly some shining lights.
One that no one quite expected was Connor Dewar, who was acquired in a deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, with the underutilized forward playing a very solid game in his short time with the team.
In 17 games after being acquired, Dewar tallied 4 goals and 7 points, becoming a key part of the teams middle-six, and although he's a restricted free agent in the summer, many expect to see him back to earn a role in the Penguins lineup again in 2025/26.
While team overall struggled, Dewar had nothing but good things to say about his time in Pittsburgh, as he finally felt like he found a great fit for himself at the NHL level after floundering in Minnesota and Toronto.
«I came here and got an opportunity to play and showcase the type of player I am. I felt like it's been a great fit here for me.»
After the trade was initially made, GM Kyle Dubas had great things to say about Dewar, and after his performance down the stretch in 2024/25, these comments make much more sense.
«Highly competitive, great teammate, can come in and bring a certain life and spirit to the group. He brings life, energy and spirit. As we continue to work our way through this, it's important to have those types of people here.

«He's under team control with his contractual status. We'll give him a good run. We're excited about him.»

While many were disappointing for Pittsburgh this season, Dewar was a revelation, and with a full off-season and training camp with the team, optimism is high that he can be valuable for the team moving forward, so don't be shocked to see the 25-year old in a significant role for the team next season.
