After the deal that sent
J.T. Miller to New York and the corresponding one to send
Marcus Pettersson to Vancouver, the Penguins ended up with the Rangers 2025 first-round pick, but there's a decision to make.
Either the Rangers can give away their 2025 first, which has landed at No. 12 overall, or they can announce now to give away their 2026 first-round pick instead, but given how loaded that class may be, there has been discussion on what New York should do.
Now, insider Josh Yohe has weighed in on the situation, and several weeks out from the NHL Draft, he's made his prediction on what will happen to resolve this scenario involving New York and Pittsburgh.
I'm guessing the Rangers will give the Penguins the 12th pick this year. I also strongly remind you that this is just a guess. It's a totally fascinating selection.
While New York aren't expected to be in the lottery again next year after landing Mike Sullivan behind the bench, the 2026 draft class is expected to be one of the deepest in league history, and as a result, the Rangers have a genuine conundrum on their hands.
Ultimately, whatever they do there will be criticism from all over, but for the Penguins, it's a win-win, as they get two lottery picks this year or a draft pick in a loaded class of 2026, so expect this to play out well for GM Kyle Dubas and the Penguins.
