Radim Zohorna showed flashes with the Penguins, but after he failed to keep his spot in the NHL, it appears the young forward is headed to Sweden next.
After eight solid years playing in the Czech Republic, Radim Zohorna finally made his way to North America in 2020/21, making his debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins shortly after, playing 15 games with the team in the NHL during his first stint.
The 6-foot-6 forward then spent time with the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs before returning to Pittsburgh in 2023/24, playing his best NHL season with 33 games played, scoring 4 goals and 7 points in that time.
Surprisingly, he never got another shot in the NHL, as he would finish his time in the NHL before heading to Switzerland this past season, and now, he's officially signed a deal in Sweden, likely to end his time in the NHL.
During his stint in North America, Zohorna played in 68 NHL games, tallying 9 goals and 18 points in that time, and even with his size and relatively solid production as a bottom-six forward, he simply wasn't given a chance after that.
Now, the Czech native will likely spend the remainder of his hockey career overseas, and while he's still young enough at 29-years of age to potentially find his way back to North America, it's highly unlikely at this point in time.
Ultimately, this is another case of there simply not being enough spots in the NHL for a player that could have played a solid role in the league, and as a result, he's likely to thrive overseas, as he had 22 points in 33 games this past season in Switzerland, and now, he'll look to continue his career at a high level in Sweden.
