Penguins legend Marc-Andre Fleury reportedly open to NHL return if given the right opportunity
Tonight, new reports have indicated that former Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is interested in a return to the NHL and could join a familiar face in a goalie duo.
Marc-Andre Fleury has spent this entire season away from the game of hockey after stepping away and retiring at the conclusion of his latest stint with the Minnesota Wild.
Despite Fleury's retirement several teams have been working to convince the future Hall of Famer to come back and to this point have been unsuccessful.
However, with several playoff bound teams in desperate need of a goaltending upgrade, reports have indicated that Fleury is now considering a return to the NHL under the right circumstances.
Marc-Andre Fleury considering a return to the NHL to chase a Stanley Cup
According to ESPN NHL insider Greg Wyshynski, Fleury is open to a return to the NHL under the right circumstances.
Wyshynski believes that the Edmonton Oilers would be near the top of Fleury's wishlist to be able to reunite with former Penguins teammate Tristan Jarry.
Of course, Jarry recently suffered an injury leaving the Oilers without a clear starter and relying on Calvin Pickard along with Connor Ingram to split games.
If Fleury was willing to come out of retirement he would be a clear upgrade over both players and provide Stanley Cup Playoff experience as well.
The Oilers are in desperate need of a goaltending upgrade and if Fleury is willing to return it is a call they need to make.
