Penguins linked to veteran forward free agent after recent contract termination
After having his contract terminated by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been linked to forward David Kampf.
Forward David Kampf is no longer part of the Toronto Maple Leafs, as he was put on unconditional
waivers after he refused to report to the AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies.
He was put on waivers to start this season, and his refusal to report to the Marlies was considered a breach of his contract.
Now that he's looking for a new team, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman has connected Kampf to both the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Elliotte Friedman: Re David Kampf: I definitely believe Vancouver is in on this; someone mentioned Pittsburgh to me; I also just wonder about Montreal; I don't know if [Montreal] would be the favourite - 32 Thoughts (11/14)
David Kampf Would Not Report To The Toronto Marlies
Earlier in the month, Friedman reported that Kampf was
taking several days to think about his future in the Maple Leafs organization.
David Kampf is taking a couple days to kind of think about his future. Obviously, he's not playing with the Maple Leafs right now; he's in a bit of a roster and salary cap crunch situation, and he got a little bit frustrated. I think everybody understands he wants to play in the NHL and he's an NHL player; it's a roster and cap crunch that has him down there.
Kampf was never drafted into the NHL and signed an entry level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. He would play four years in a Blackhawks sweater before signing with the Maple Leafs in 2021.
So far in 536 career NHL games, Kampf has 143 points (48G, 95A).
