Penguins Lose in Controversial Fashion After Sidney Crosby Was Ejected In Overtime vs. the Flyers
Tonight's Pittsburgh Penguins game came to a controversial end as the Penguins lost in a shootout after Sidney Crosby received a misconduct penalty.
The Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against their bitter rival the Philadelphia Flyers as the NHL conducted their frozen frenzy day where every team in the NHL is scheduled to play.
The Penguins got off to a strong start with a goal from Justin Brazeau who continues his incredible start to year.
His goal was followed by a pair of Flyers goals which was then answered by a Sidney Crosby tally to tie the game at three mid-way through the third period.
The game would head to overtime where the real fireworks began with a full on brawl breaking out leading to ejections.
Penguins Lose After Controversial Call Leading to Sidney Crosby Ejection
At the end of the overtime period, a brawl broke out between the Penguins and Flyers with each team pushing and shoving.
In the chaos, Crosby came off of the bench to stand up for his teammates leading him along with several other players to get misconduct penalties.
Due to this misconduct penalty, Crosby was not allowed to participate in the shootout which led the Penguins to ultimately lose after Bobby Brink of the Flyers netted the shootout winner.
At the moment, it remains unclear if Crosby will face any other discipline or what exactly caused him to come off of the bench during this moment but the Penguins paid the price and will now have to move forward.
It will be interesting to hear from Crosby and head coach Dan Muse after the game to learn what exactly happened to lead to Crosby's penalty.
