With the offseason now in full swing for the Pittsburgh Penguins, the work continues for their American Hockey League and ECHL affiliates.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 3rd straight year, marking the longest drought of franchise icon
Sidney Crosby's career.
And as Penguins fans wait with bated breath to see what the next moves from general manager Kyle Dubas are for the summer, the work continues with the affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
They've re-assigned forward Logan Pietila to the ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. Additionally,
Chase Pietila, the brother of Logan, has been released from his professional tryout agreement and will also join the Nailers.
Logan Pietila previously played for Michigan Tech University in the NCAA; he played in 69 games with the Nailers, scoring 27 points (9G, 18A).
Chase Pietila, a defenseman, spent this year with Michigan Tech and appeared in 36 games with 22 points (7G, 15A); he had 3 points, all assists, with the Nailers in 9 games.
Kyle Dubas plans on being busy this summer
When speaking about what his plans for his club are in the upcoming summer months, Penguins GM Kyle Dubas
spoke about the eventual shift from the players on the roster now to those in the system.
Next season would be a tremendous accomplishment for the players. When I say as urgently as possible, I try not to put a timeline on it, because I don't want this to be a perpetual and evergreen conversation where we come in and we say we're just a year or two or so away. We're pushing because I think that's what the organization here is used to, what the fans want. We just have to stick to a very concise plan and then execute our butts off.
