The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have reassigned injured goalie Taylor Gauthier to the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers after he has been unable to play this season.

According to the transaction page on the AHL's website, goaltender Taylor Gauthier was assigned from the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, which was reported by Seth Rorabaugh.
Gauthier has been sidelined all season due to an undisclosed injury he suffered at the beginning of the Pittsburgh Penguins' training camp.

This reassignment could be for a conditioning role

There are no further details about this assignment, which leaves many to wonder if he is healthy enough to possibly see some action in a conditioning role.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed Gauthier to an American Hockey League contract for the 2025-26 season back in July. Gauthier was entering his fourth season as a pro and his fourth season in the Penguins organization.
In 25 career AHL games, all with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Calgary, Alberta native boasts a 10-5-7 record to go along with a 2.77 goals against average, .908 save percentage, as well as two shutouts.
The 24-year-old has also dominated the ECHL ranks during the previous three seasons.

Why there is still future hope for Taylor Gauthier

In 2023-24, Gauthier became the first goalie in Wheeling Nailers history to win the Nick Vitucci Award as the ECHL's Goaltender of the Year after posting a fantastic 24-16-2 record, 2.23 goals against average, .923 save percentage, and four shutouts.
He improved upon several of those categories last season with Wheeling, as he placed second in the league with a .928 save percentage and third overall with a 2.06 goals against average.
His injury this year came at a very unfortunate time in his career, and we wish him a quick recovery and hope he gets to see some game action very soon.
