The Pittsburgh Penguins have already signed multiple players at the start of the NHL's free agency period, and have now brought in a handful of top college free agent players to compete with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have already brought in a handful of new free agent players, signing forward Justin Brazeau and defensemen Parker Wotherspoon and Caleb Jones to 2-year contracts.
They also signed Anthony Mantha and Rafael Harvey-Pinard to 1-year contracts, and defenseman Phil Kemp to a 2-year contract.
Now, the Penguins have brought in more young talent, signing Tommy Budnick, Brayden Edwards, Aaron Huglen and Zach Urdahl, all of whom are expected to play for the AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Budnick split this year between the Guelph Storm and Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League, while Edwards is coming off a 4-year tenure with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League.
Huglen, who was originally taken by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, was the captain of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Meanwhile, Urdahl split his college play between the University of Wisconsin and University of Nebraska-Omaha.

The Penguins made a major change in leadership after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Penguins decided that after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 3rd straight year, the longest drought of captain Sidney Crosby's career, a change in leadership was needed.
Penguins GM Kyle Dubas parted ways with head coach Mike Sullivan and brought in former New York Rangers assistant Dan Muse as his replacement, while also hiring former Penguins Stanley Cup-winning forward Nick Bonino to work as an assistant coach.
