Penguins Pull the Trigger and Sign 6-Foot-4 Latvian Forward
Raivis Ansons has been a solid hand in the AHL for the past few years, and while he played just nine games in 2024/25, he's back with the team on a new deal.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had another solid campaign in 2024/25, and while they didn't go far in the Calder Cup Playoffs, this is a team that has some intriguing young players of the future for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
One of those is former fifth-round pick Raivis Ansons, who was originally selected in the 2020 NHL Draft, with the Latvian native making his way through the QMJHL before making his professional debut in 2022/23.
The 23-year old has now played in three seasons for the WBS Penguins, but this past year was full of injuries and issues, as he would play in just nine games for the team, tallying one assist and a +3 differential in that time.
Now, the WBS Penguins have taken to social media to announce that he has signed a new deal that will keep him with the team for the upcoming 2025/26 season as the team look to continue his development.
In 2023/24, Ansons had a solid campaign, posting 2 goals and 7 points in 34 games played, with the team seeing plenty of potential in him, potentially as a bottom-six forward in the NHL given his impressive physical tools and the growth seen thus far in his professional career.
Even in the QMJHL, Ansons best two seasons were 35 and 36 points, so he's never been a big scorer, but if he can continue to develop and finally breakout next season, don't be surprised to see him as a mainstay with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for further years to come.
