Pittsburgh Penguins Announce Winners of the Annual Team Awards
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had a poor season, but throughout all of that one player has stood out, and unsurprisingly, he's won a big team award along with another veteran who took out a big award at the annual Team Awards.
While they flashed plenty of potential this season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have failed to string together much momentum this season, as they are right on the verge of missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season.
There have been some shining lights, with
Rickard Rakell posting career highs and the emergence of some intriguing young names as pieces of the future, but as always, it's been
Sidney Crosby to lead the way.
With 81 points in 73 games played, including four overtime winners and several broken NHL records, it comes as no shock that the captain has been given the Team MVP award at the annual Pittsburgh Penguins Team Awards.
Unsurprisingly, he's made even more Penguins history as a result, capturing his 13th team MVP award, passing the great
Mario Lemieux for the most in franchise history, solidifying himself as the greatest Penguins player in history.
As for
Noel Acciari, he took home the very important Unsung Hero award, one that is given to a player that always gives 150% or more to the team without being recognized, and now, he's officially achieved that recognition.
The veteran may not be putting up high level numbers, but he always does what he can to help the team, and alongside Sidney Crosby, he deservedly takes home one of the more important team awards that they give out.
Ultimately, it's been a tough campaign in Pittsburgh, but there's still plenty to celebrate with Crosby playing the way he is, and if they can have a good summer, there's no reason why this team can't bounce back in 2025/26.
