Pittsburgh Penguins Debut a Brand New Jersey Against the New York Islanders

Heading into the Penguins home opener against the Islanders a lot of the focus was placed on the debut of 2025 first-overall pick Matthew Schaefer.

With the Penguins being the home team they had a surprise up their sleeve to bring the focus back in their favor as the Penguins subtly and secretly debuted a new uniform.

During warmups, the Penguins took the ice in their normal black jerseys but with gold helmets and socks.

After warmups, the Penguins shed the traditional black jerseys for gold jerseys that matched the rest of the uniform from warmups.

While fans did expect the Penguins to eventually bring in a new third uniform it was unexpected to happen on opening night especially without any prior announcements or promotions.

After the reveal of these jerseys fans took to social media to give their opinions on the Penguins new look.

The mixed reaction is one that the Penguins likely expected as gold or yellow primary jerseys are usually either loved or hated by fans similar to those that the Nashville Predators use.

In the new uniforms, the Penguins got off to a hot start as Evgeni Malkin continued his resurgent start to the year.

Malkin's goal was followed up by a goal by the Islanders spear headed by the first point in the career of Matthew Schaefer.

At the end of the first period, the two sides remain tied and now it will be up to the Penguins to get the lead back and finish the first game in gold strong.
