Pittsburgh Penguins linked to superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes in potential deadline deal
The Quinn Hughes trade saga continues to develop and tonight the Pittsburgh Penguins have been linked to the superstar defenseman as a potential target.
Over the last several weeks a trade involving Quinn Hughes leaving the Vancouver Canucks has become significantly more likely with multiple teams reportedly in talks with the Canucks.
To this point, the New Jersey Devils have been the team mentioned the most in connection with Hughes due to the family connection with his brothers.
However, this evening, a new report has indicated that Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins have been mentioned as a contender for Hughes by insider Elliotte Friedman.
Penguins linked to Quinn Hughes as potential blockbuster deadline target
With the Penguins off to an incredible start this season many analysts believe they will try to go all in to get Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin one more Stanley Cup.
If that is the case Friedman believes that Kyle Dubas will push hard to land Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks.
The Penguins have a deep and talented prospect pool that could jump start the Canucks rebuild as well as access to their first round picks over the next couple of seasons to deal as well.
If the Canucks are ready to lean into a full rebuild the Penguins would be an ideal team to partner with on a Hughes trade.
The biggest factor that could hold up this deal would be whether or not Hughes is willing to extend in Pittsburgh and if not would Dubas still be willing to trade for him as a rental.
As the trade deadline approaches, this will be a storyline to follow to see if the Penguins can become a finalist to steal Quinn away from their division rival in New Jersey.
