Tonight, Sidney Crosby has spoken on the impact that Evgeni Malkin's injury will have on the Penguins lineup going forward.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced earlier today that Evgeni Malkin was placed on injured reserve and would be out for at least a week.
The announcement comes after Malkin missed the Penguins game against the Dallas Stars with what the team at the time called a day-to-day injury.
Unfortunately, Malkin will not miss several games and before tonight's contest against the Anaheim Ducks Sidney Crosby spoke about the impact Malkin's absence will have.

Sidney Crosby discusses Evgeni Malkin's injury after being placed on injured reserve

During an interview today, Crosby was asked how the Penguins plan to adjust and replace Malkin's production during his week-to-week absence.
Crosby admitted that Malkin is a player that cannot be replaced but that others will need to step up to keep the Penguins rolling along.
Before the injury, Malkin was on a tear with 29 points in 26 games putting him on one of the best point per game paces of his entire NHL career.
Unfortunately, the Penguins felt the loss of Malkin tonight against the Anaheim Ducks falling by a score of 4-3 in a shootout.
With Malkin out the Penguins will likely rely more heavily upon Crosby and rookie phenom Ben Kindel to pick up the offensive production left in his wake.
Over the next couple of games it will be interesting to see how the Penguins respond without Malkin and whether or not they can stay in the Stanley Cup Playoff race until he returns.
As more information is provided on Malkin's return to the Penguins lineup we will pass that news along to you.
