Pittsburgh Penguins Make Major Announcement to Fans About Their Alternate Jerseys
The Penguins debuted their alternate jerseys last night vs. the Islanders, and the team has revealed that they will be featured 10 more times this season.
The Fanatics-designed jersey boasts a prominent single skating penguin crest on a vibrant Penguins Gold backdrop.
A triangle shoulder patch, representing Point State Park, includes three river waves, a black checker pattern, and an igloo, a tribute to the team's first home.
Lettering and numbering font come from the city's old trolley cars, and a loop tag on the lower back features one of Pittsburgh's famous yellow bridges.
A blue-and-white checker pattern from the city flag wraps around the word "PITTSBURGH" inside the collar.
This Isn't the First Time the Penguins go Full Gold on Their Jerseys
The Penguins' Gold appearance is reminiscent of the Mario Lemieux era and previous alternates, such as the 2018-19 season and the 2017 Stadium Series game against Philadelphia.
The new jersey can be purchased by fans at PensGear and pensgear.com exclusively until October 13, before it is available at DICK's Sporting Goods and other retailers beginning October 14.
The Penguins made the announcement today that they will don their third jerseys 10 more times during the season, all Thursday home games, as well as Saturday, November 22, against Seattle and Sunday, April 5, against Florida.
This jersey is full of local meaning and a tip of the hat to the franchise's golden history. It combines heritage and contemporary design, introducing a new era of Pittsburgh pride to the ice this season.
