Mitch Marner is going to draw immense interest when free agency begins, and again, a top insider has revealed that he could potentially be joining the Penguins.
NHL free agency is almost upon us, and while there's going to be plenty of intrigue around the NHL, the biggest story will be the future of Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner.
In recent times, he's been linked to almost every team in the NHL from the Florida Panthers to the Vegas Golden Knights to the St. Louis Blues, however all reports have revealed that he will likely not remain in Canada if he is to depart the Maple Leafs.
However, the rumour linking him to the Pittsburgh Penguins simply won't die, as ESPN's Greg Wyshynski has once again revealed the links to Kyle Dubas and the opportunity to play alongside
Sidney Crosby could draw Marner to the Penguins.
There has even been talk about a reunion with former Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas at the Pittsburgh Penguins -- heck, if the rap on Marner is that he can't figure out playoff hockey, you could do a lot worse than having Sidney Crosby as your tutor for a couple of seasons.
It's hard to dispute Wyshynski's point here, as the post-season has been Marner's kryptonite thus far, and playing with one of the best players in Stanley Cup Playoffs history in Crosby may be the thing that transforms his career.
However, this Penguins team isn't one that's built to compete now, so if Marner was to end up in Pittsburgh, he would likely need ot be patient and understand that they may not be a post-season lock.
Ultimately, no team can be ruled out in the Mitch Marner sweepstakes this off-season, and while the Penguins aren't the favourite at this point in time, it's hard to ignore why they'd be an attractive destination.
