Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins aren't expected to realistically contend for the postseason, and team analyst Josh Yohe appeared to hint at a major deal incoming for the team.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are going through a period of transition right now, as they are in no way expected to realistically contend for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year in what could be Evgeni Malkin's final season.
General manager Kyle Dubas continues to try and find the right deal for defenseman Erik Karlsson, while forwards like Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell continue to be involved in trade rumors.

Penguins Poised for Major Shakeup as Dubas Eyes Youth Movement and Potential Blockbuster Trade

In a recent article, Penguins analyst Josh Yohe of The Athletic hinted that a major move could be coming from Dubas, who would love to lower the average age of the team and even try and have a chance at landing the top overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
Still, I keep going back to what several team sources have told me: Dubas wants to go young next season.

As July turns into August and training camp is less than seven weeks away, remember those words. Things are quiet at the moment. However, as we all know, that can change. A big trade or two feels likely before training camp.

Again, the goal is to get younger. Rust and Rakell are good enough that they'll not only hurt the Penguins' chances of earning a top-five pick, but they should also fetch a significant return.

They could both be on the opening night roster, of course, but I'd be surprised if that happens.

Rust and Rakell are 33 and 32, respectively, while Karlsson is 35. Right now, the Penguins are tied for the oldest roster in the NHL.
