Sidney Crosby's Future in Pittsburgh Addressed Amid Playoff Crisis
Many questions have been raised over Sidney Crosby's future as a Pittsburgh Penguin, but it appears the captain is set to remain with the team for life.
Sidney Crosby is one of the greatest players in NHL history, and while he's clearly still got a lot to offer at the NHL level, the organization has let him down in recent years as they have now missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
That has led to many questioning his future with the team, and even after all of the speculation of a potential union with
Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado, it's clear that he's committed to Pittsburgh.
When asked about his future, GM Kyle Dubas reveals that Crosby is unhappy with the struggles the team have had and that's simply because he cares, but given that he was already back to skating with the team, it's a clear indicator that he's still committed to the Penguins.
In fact, Dubas was so confident in his plan, that one reporter reveals Dubas said Sid will want to stick around if he can execute his long-term plan, which shows his level of optimism in the organization moving forward.
«Dubas said if he sticks to and executes his long-term plan, Sid should want to stick around.»
It's unclear at this point in time what the plan exactly is, but with plenty of salary cap space and a plethora of draft picks, there's many ways that Dubas can go in the off-season, and it should have Penguins fans excited.
Ultimately, many things will need to change for the Penguins to once again be competitive at the highest level, and with a good summer, there's no reason why they can't bounce back and end their playoff drought behind No. 87, who seems to be getting better with age.
