Sidney Crosby Hints at His Top Choice for Penguins Head Coach in New Interview
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby hinted at his top choice to replace Mike Sullivan as head coach in a new interview.
Many rumors suggested that Sidney Crosby would have a say in the
hiring process of the Pittsburgh Penguins new head coach. Considering that he likely wants to spend the rest of his career in Pittsburgh, and how he played a crucial role for the Penguins for nearly 20 years, it's only fair to include him in the searching process.
While he may not have the final words, his input will be considered and it would be surprising to see the team hire someone Crosby doesn't want to work with, unless Dubas doesn't mind risking to push the captain to ask to be traded to another team.
In a recent interview, Crosby revealed that he would be ready to share his opinion on contenders for the job if Dubas wants it.
Josh Yohe added that Crosby could be talking about Rick Tocchet, his old assistant coach that figures among the best available coaches and is on many teams' radars:
"If he wants my opinion on someone who's out there, and someone who is out there that I might have had as coach before or someone I've heard about, then sure, then I'll share my opinion."
That person is out there.
Crosby might have been referencing his old assistant coach, Rick Tocchet. After walking away from the opportunity to coach the Vancouver Canucks, Tocchet is one of the hottest commodities on the coaching market. He is very high on the list of candidates for the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken.
While he didn't mention Tocchet's name, Crosby stated that he would be ready to share insights on someone he worked with in the past if his team ask him.
Tocchet worked in Pittsburgh as assistant-coach between 2014 and 2017, before joining the Arizona Coyotes, then the Vancouver Canucks as head coach.
After a tough season in Vancouver, it seems the coach's time with the Canucks ran out, and rumors sending him to the Bruins, Flyers, Kraken and Penguins are going around. Stay tuned to get the latest updates.
