The Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby sent a strong message ahead of tonight's final game of the season against the Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin.
It's safe to say that the 2024-25 season hasn't been going the way Sidney Crosby or any of the Pittsburgh Penguins' leaders had planned. They've been at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division most of the season, and Kyle Dubas traded many players to get draft picks.
Despite all that happened, Crosby will have an opportunity to end the season on a high note tonight as the Pens receive the Washington Capitals for the last game of the year.
The Capitals confirmed their playoff spot a while ago, and as we often see when that happens, questions were raised about certain players who could benefit from a day off.
Alex Ovechkin broke his leg this season but hasn't skipped a beat since he returned, breaking Wayne Gretzky's record and scoring 43 goals in 64 games this season.
All indicates that he could be scratched from the lineup for the last game of the season, but head coach Spencer Carbery confirmed that Ovi will be in uniform to face Sidney Crosby.
Ahead of the game, Crosby spoke out about his relationship and on-ice rivalry with Ovechkin:
"We've seen a lot of each other on the ice. But off it, whether it's All-Star Games or events or whatever it may be, I think just having the opportunity to get to know him a little bit more, I think that's helped. You develop a friendship through those experiences and things like that. So, I think it's been great. We've been at it a long time. So, it's nice. It's nice to have a relationship like that. Obviously, it's still really competitive on the ice. So, that's good, too."
