NHL insider Dave Molinari believes the clear-cut choice for the Penguins' number one goalie job should be Tristan Jarry, until he proves otherwise.

Penguins coach Dan Muse won't tip his hand regarding his starting goalie until the morning skate, but one trend is clear for the Penguins heading into tonight's tilt in Tampa.
Tristan Jarry has gotten most of the playtime for the first 25 games. He had some question marks regarding his future involvement for the start of the 2025-26 season, but appears to be back as an integral component for the squad after two months.

What Dan Muse has been doing recently regarding his starting goalie strategy

Muse has been rotating the goaltending duties between Jarry and Arturs Silovs, but the last couple of games have not been close. Silovs was substituted out of his last two games after allowing the opposing team to score four goals on 10 shots.
Although his team wasn't doing well, Silovs wasn't making the necessary saves for him to stay in the crease.
While the start of the season and the 25-save shutout on opening night impressed, his play has tapered off. In his last eight decisions, Silovs boasts a 1-3-4 record and stands 4-4-4 overall with a 3.00 goals-against average and .898 save percentage.
However, Jarry's statistics are remarkable by comparison. In 10 starting appearances and one relief outing, the 8-2 goalie boasts a 2.57 goals-against average and .911 save percentage.
Both goaltenders are sure to be called on during the stretch of 10 games in 17 days, which includes two back-to-back sets.
However, as the Penguins sit with a 13-7-5 record and are tied for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the difference is close.

Why the Penguins need to start going more with Tristan Jarry

At the moment, the player offering the best opportunity for the Penguins to collect some points, according to NHL insider Dave Molinari, is Jarry.
"Who it should be, though, is pretty clear.

The same guy who has, 25 games into the season, earned the right to get the bulk of the starts unless, or until, he falters.

That would be Tristan Jarry, who seemed to have little, if any, future with the Penguins after last season, but who has, two months into 2025-26, established himself as a key member of the team."

Two months into the NHL season, and he has worked his way into the starting position.
