Could Sidney Crosby have one more go at the Stanley Cup if he were to be dealt? ESPN's John Buccigross names the one place that he'd like Crosby to be dealt to.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a period of transition, having not only missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the last 3 years straight but also searching for a new head coach for the 1st time in nearly 10 years.
GM Kyle Dubas parted ways with coach Mike Sullivan, who had been on the job since December of 2015.
The 3-year playoff drought is now the longest of captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby's career; while he's under contract with Pittsburgh for another pair of seasons, could he request a trade so that he could have one final shot at winning the Stanley Cup before he retires?
ESPN's John Buccigross broke down the one destination that he feels Crosby should request to be moved to, and it happens to be the team he grew up rooting for as a kid.
I would like Sid to wake up one day and say, 'I want to go play for Montreal. That was my team as a kid, they're coming, they're on the up.' I think that's the place. If Sid is going to go anywhere...Biz, I know you've talked about Colorado, but to me, Montreal is the only place he would go.
Buccigross then spoke hypothetically as if he were Kyle Dubas, saying that he would tell Crosby that the team plan is to eventually send him packing after a year-long celebration of his career in Pittsburgh.
If he wakes up tomorrow and says, 'You know what, this doesn't make sense.' Let them hire a young coach, let them start to start over. Give Geno his final year next year, the last year of his deal, let him walk off. He still wants to play, he can go elsewhere....we'd like to honor you the entire year long and send you off. If he wants to play, go ahead, but this is our plan. I'd tell him this summer, too, that this is our plan for you.
