The Maple Leafs and Penguins have made several trades in recent times, and now Elliotte Friedman has speculated that another trade between them could be coming.
Since departing Toronto for Pittsburgh, Kyle Dubas has been happy to do business with his former team, and with the Penguins now looking to get younger, we could be seeing more business done between the two Eastern Conference teams.
A Maple Leafs-Penguins Deal Could Involve Major Names and Shift Both Teams' Directions
On the latest episode of the
32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman opened up on the Penguins off-season, noting that big moves will come from Pittsburgh before the 2025/26 season officially begins.
Now, he's brought up a specific name in Nick Robertson, a player that Dubas drafted in Toronto, and after his latest deal went through, he's the perfect trade piece for Toronto, who could look to add either
Rickard Rakell or
Bryan Rust alongside
Auston Matthews and
Matthew Knies.
Elliotte Friedman: I had a couple people ask me about the possibility of Nick Robertson and Pittsburgh; Kyle Dubas knows him; they got the arbitration settled; Leafs have to clear some bodies
It's unclear if Toronto are willing to meet Dubas' asking price for either veteran star, or if the team are looking to make a smaller deal to unload Robertson with the Penguins simply being the best fit for the young winger, who currently doesn't have a role in the Maple Leafs crowded forward group.
Either way, it's expected that the two parties will talk business at some point this off-season, and given the pieces that both teams have to offer, we could be looking at a blockbuster deal.
