Tristan Jarry Ties Penguins Legend in Stunning Record Moment
Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry recorded his 22nd shutout last night, which has tied franchise legend Tom Barrasso for second most in team history.
The victory capped a successful California road trip for Pittsburgh, which went 2-1-0 and is now 4-2-0 overall.
The game had a personal tale behind it as Jarry and Nedeljkovic, who shared the Penguins' crease for two years before Nedeljkovic was traded to San Jose last July, posed together in a pregame photo before lining themselves up for a goaltending showdown.
"We're great friends and we had a great time [in Pittsburgh] together. We really enjoyed each other," Jarry said after the game. "It's a tough business when you lose someone like that. He was a great person, a great player and great for this team."
Pittsburgh was finally able to open up halfway through the second as captain
Sidney Crosby deflected home the first goal of the game. Then Jarry closed the door tight, stopping all 31 shots he saw.
Tristan Jarry not only got a shutout, but he stole the show with spectacular saves
The second period was more spectacular still, a stop on first-year player
Michael Misa. Jarry followed that with a save on a third-period breakaway by
William Eklund.
The show earned Jarry his season's first shutout, and the 22nd of his NHL career, tying franchise great Tom Barrasso with the second-most shutouts in Penguins history.
It was a forceful declaration by Jarry, who is concentrating on tighter starts and greater consistency following last season's rollercoaster.
If Saturday was any indication, he's headed in the right direction, and the Penguins have all that much more to be pleased about as they head home with momentum in their hands.
