Kris Letang has been a star for the Penguins for a long time, and now, he's on the verge of history as he continues to build on his incredible career.
While
Sidney Crosby and
Evgeni Malkin get all the praise for the two-decade long Pittsburgh Penguins dynasty, Kris Letang was just as important, leading the Penguins blue line for all of that time.
He may have slowed down in recent years, but Letang is just as loyal to the Penguins organization as anyone, and at the end of his career, he'll be remembered as an icon in Pittsburgh.
Letang approaching major milestone
Kris Letang enters the game three assists from becoming the 20th defenseman in NHL history to notch 600 assists, and is looking to join
Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns and Victor Hedman as the only active blueliners to accomplish this feat.
He would also become just the 10th defenseman in NHL history to record 600 or more assists with one team.
With his 597 assists, Letang has 772 career points in 1,166 games played, and while he doesn't have the accomplishments of other blue liners, he's certainly one of the most respected players of this previous generation.
In five games this season, Letang is yet to score or post an assist, and while he's a +2 on the season, it's been another disappointing start, so at this point in time, it may be a few games before we see the veteran pass 600 assists, but with him ranking 20th all-time in assists by a defenseman, he could climb into the top-10 before his career is over.
