Mike Sullivan's future in Pittsburgh has been a major talking point in recent times, and now, it's been revealed just how the team see him moving forward.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season in 2024/25, and with the future up in the air, questions have been raised about their entire roster.
Now just the roster though, as Mike Sullivan has faced some scrutiny this season, with many believing that the team could look to move on from him soon after the way the team have played in recent times.
According to NHL.com reporter Wes Crosby however, there's no feeling within the organization that Sullivan will be pushed out though, as he still has the trust of the senior players in Pittsburgh.
There has been no indication the Penguins are dissatisfied with Sullivan as their coach despite a lack of recent success. Sullivan provides consistency, the kind Crosby, Malkin and Letang value, and could help bridge the gap between the past championships and the future runs Pittsburgh hopes to develop.
While the team haven't had much success as of late, the roster has been a flawed one from the beginning, as Sullivan has continued to do the best he can, and with the trust of Sidney Crosby, who continues to produce at an elite level, it makes sense that the team want to keep things status quo.
Sullivan is also the highest paid coach in the league, and that makes him incredibly hard to replace, so while the success has been non-existent as of late, Sullivan has the trust of the veteran core and plenty of past success behind him, so don't expect him to go anywhere until 87 and 71 both move on.
