Mike Sullivan has been through some tough years in recent times with the Penguins, and now he's opened up on another very disappointing campaign.
In his first two years as Pittsburgh Penguins Head Coach, Mike Sullivan took the team to the Stanley Cup Finals, but in recent years they've struggled, as the team are set to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs entirely for the third straight year.
While many may be considering looking towards a rebuild, GM Kyle Dubas has made it clear that the team are focused on building a winner once again around
Sidney Crosby, and it appears Sullivan shares the same goal.
When he was asked about the state of the organization and where the team is, Sullivan reiterated that the team are disappointed, but sticks to the belief that they can keep working through this and get back to where they want to be as a team.
"Obviously, we're not where we want to be. We all understand that. We know where we're at. We know where we've got to go, and we've got to keep working toward that."
What's also expressed in Sullivan's comments is that he's still looking towards a future with this team, and even though some fans have sent plenty of criticism his way, the Penguins know that if they want a quick turnaround, it will come on the back of Sullivan being behind the bench, especially given his relationship with Sidney Crosby and
Evgeni Malkin.
Ultimately, this is an organization that prides itself on success, and with some stars left to build around, an established coach and some young names coming through, if done right this team could turn things around quickly, with Sullivan clearly wanting to be a major part of that.
