Young Senators Defenseman Expected to Be Traded Imminently: Could Be a Perfect Fit in Pittsburgh
Maxence Guenette has shown promise in the AHL for Ottawa, and now that he's likely to be traded, it's a chance for the Penguins to add a promising young player.
The Pittsburgh Penguins blue line is looking rather rough heading into 2025/26, with no standout talents and likely no major prospects ready to take a top job away from a veteran, of which the team currently have many on the blue line.
The prospect pipeline is solid with the likes of Owen Pickering, Harrison Brunicke and Bill Zonnon, but they'll take time to establish themselves in the NHL, with many expecting some type of trade this off-season.
Why Pittsburgh's Blue Line Depth Could Make Guenette a Fit
According to recent reports, Max Guenette of the Ottawa Senators is likely on the way out, and at 24-years of age, even with just 8 NHL games under his belt, he could be a great fit for Pittsburgh.
In the past two AHL seasons, Guentte has appeared in 116 games, tallying 16 goals and 57 points in that time, but given the talent in Ottawa, he just hasn't gotten a sustained look at the NHL level.
A Waiver-Eligible Defenseman the Penguins Might Take a Chance On
The Penguins should swoop in as a result and land the young potential star, and given that he's currently an RFA, it would be a simple deal to make with the Penguins likely ready to hand out a cheap, one-year deal.
Ultimately, Guenette isn't the answer to the Penguins blue line issues, but with the team needing an infusion of young talent, they should be looking to the 24-year old as someone they can give a genuine opportunity to moving forward.
