Toronto Maple Leafs Show High Interest In Several Defenceman Before Deadline
The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the hunt in the trade market, particularly looking for a defenceman to bolster their lineup, and some interesting names have surfaced as potential targets.
NHL insider David Pagnotta has brought to light the Leafs interest in Montreal Canadiens defenceman David Savard. At 33 years old and with a year remaining on his contract, Savard carries a cap hit of $3.5 million. The Canadiens are open to trading him for the right offer.
«Speaking to some people across the NHL, outside of Montreal, nobody would be surprised if Savard is dealt by deadline day. We'll see if a team convinces MTL to part with him.»
Savard's appeal to the Leafs is clear: he's a right-shot defenseman, a specific need for the team given that Timothy Liljegren is currently their only natural right shot on the blue line. But Savard isn't the only player in the Leafs' sights.
Pagnotta mentions that the Leafs are casting a wide net, considering several defensemen, including right-shooter Matt Dumba. Yet, the Leafs aren't exclusively searching for a right-hand shot; they've shown interest in left-handed defensemen like Mario Ferraro of the San Jose Sharks among others.

With a preference for a right-handed defenseman, the Leafs are weighing their options carefully. With the trade deadline approaching, GM Brad Treliving and the Leafs' front office are poised for action.
