Canucks President Jim Rutherford Caught in Embarrassing Lie Involving Rick Tocchet

Earlier this off-season, the Vancouver Canucks made their official stance on Rick Tocchet known, as just two-and-a-half years after moving on from Bruce Boudreau to hire him, the team announced that he too was moving on.

While this came with great disappointment for Canucks fans, President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford revealed it was a family related reason for Tocchet that caused the split, noting that he wanted to return to the East Coast to be closer to his family.

However, that may not actually be the case, as a report from Donnie and Dahli has revealed that he will listen to offers from all teams, including three division rivals in the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken and Los Angeles Kings (if the team move on from Jim Hiller, a move that has been highly rumoured).

The fans in Vancouver haven't shied away from catching Rutherford in a lie, as they immediately called him out on social media for the excuse he made surrounding their now former Head Coach.

Will this change anything about how the Canucks operate? It's highly unlikely, but after all the drama that has surrounded this organization for the past few years, it's hard not to feel bad for the loyal fans that follow along.

Ultimately, there's a chance that being close to family is the tie-breaking decision for Tocchet to choose between Anaheim or Philadelphia or another combination of two teams from opposite coasts, but for now, Rutherford's excuse has been clearly called out as a lie, and we will now wait and see if the organization can get themselves back into contention after a frustrating 12 months.
