Alex Ovechkin has been scoring goals at an incredible pace for decades now, and on Tuesday night, he made a young fans dream come true with his latest.
On Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets, Alex Ovechkin netted yet another goal, finding himself six goals away from passing Wayne Gretzky for top spot in NHL history, a record that many believe he will break at some point before the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
Unsurprisingly, over the course of his career, Ovechkin has made countless fans in Washington, Russia and all over the world, and with his record setting chase ongoing, those fans have been vocal about their support for the Great 8.
In the 3-2 defeat to the Jets, one of those fans was in attendance, carrying an incredible sign that said 'Score a Goal Ovi, my Dad beat cancer to be here'.
Not one to let a fan down, Ovechkin made the young fans dream come true with a massive goal, but it was the other text on the sign that made fans truly take notice of the young man.
«You may be my hero on the ice, but my dad is my biggest hero.»
After his dad beat cancer, the young fan made sure that people knew while Ovechkin was his hero on the ice, his dad is his hero in life, and that's an incredible story that the Capitals captain got to be a part of.
We've seen many signs like this over the years in professional sport, and not to be one to let the fans down, Ovechkin inched ever closer to passing Gretzky for top spot in league history, and at this rate, he's set to pass the record in April of this year.
