Nikolaj Ehlers is expected to have many suitors in free agency, and now the Utah Mammoth have emerged as a team that could take a big swing on him.
This off-season is reportedly set to be chaos in the NHL, and while there aren't many big name stars available beyond star winger Mitch Marner, there's definitely value to be had in free agency.
One player that could benefit from the lack of star power on the open market is Nikolaj Ehlers, who appears set to depart the Winnipeg Jets, with teams like Carolina and Chicago emerging as landing spots for the veteran.
Now however, we may have a new contender rising in the Ehlers sweepstakes, as James Mirtle of The Athletic has now revealed that the Utah Mammoth are a team to keep a very close eye on when it comes to Ehlers.
Yesterday, we saw reports that the team were potentially out on the top player available (assuming this was Marner), but with a talented forward group that needs proven performers, they make perfect sense to land Ehlers for their top line alongside Logan Cooley and Clayton Keller.
Last season, Ehlers posted another solid campaign, tallying 24 goals and 63 points in 69 games played for the Jets, and while adjusting to a new team could take time, it's expected that the market will reflect him as arguably the top player available beyond Marner and Sam Bennett.
We've heard for quite some time that the Utah Mammoth are looking to make a splash this summer, and while there's a chance they could make a blockbuster move at the draft again, if they're looking to make a big addition in free agency, Ehlers is a fantastic potential move.
