New Penguins coach Dan Muse was asked what it's like to be able to work with some of Pittsburgh's top veteran players, and he said it's a dream come true.

Dan Muse has made a reputation as a tireless and detail-minded coach who connects with players at every stage of their careers, and now, at 42, is at the pinnacle: head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Muse arrives with 20 years of coaching experience under his belt, from college hockey all the way to the NHL.
He calls his six seasons at Yale with head coach Keith Allain the foundation of his professional career, crediting Allain as the greatest influence in his life.
Muse was 27 when he spent a short time as head of the Sacred Heart program, impressing Allain enough to be employed at Yale.

Muse used to sleep at the rink, truly showing his dedication

Known for sleeping over at the rink to fit in every available minute, Muse showed a work ethic early on, not an easy feat under Allain, who started his mornings at 6 a.m.
Muse then led the USHL's Chicago Steel to their initial Clark Cup Championship in 2017. Players who have been coached by him typically report his honesty and ability to provide clear, constructive criticism.
When one player began cheating for offense on a point streak, Muse brought him into his office, showed him film, and told him what actually made him great: playing a complete 200-foot game.
He's not a newcomer to the NHL, either, with his experience in leading the Nashville Predators' penalty kill to a fourth-ranked finish in his two complete seasons in Nashville.
His most recent stint was leading the U.S. to gold at the 2023 U18 World Championship.
In Pittsburgh, Muse is at last given the chance to lead a team with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang, veteran players who have a very similar work ethic that Muse has shown as a coach.
He called the opportunity to coach these players a dream and said it's an amazing honor to coach players he has admired for years.
"It's a coach's dream to be able to work with [Crosby, Malkin, Letang]. These are legendary players in the game, not just here in Pittsburgh."

And while Muse is excited about the future, it's clear he spent a lifetime getting there.
