Former Calgary Flames Player Goes Viral After Beating Up Defenceless Player
In a Thursday night faceoff between TPS Turku and Oulun Kärpät in the Finnish Liiga, former Flames acquisition Nick Ritchie found himself in the midst of controversy, and the center of attention was his clash with Ottawa Senators Marcus Nurmi.
Nurmi, who leads TPS Turku with 13 goals and 12 assists in 35 games, is known for his subtle playing style, often getting under opponents' skin. On the other hand, Ritchie, boasting 26 fights on his NHL resume across various teams, is notorious for not tolerating pesky opponents.
The stage was set for fireworks in the December 28 matchup between sixth-place Kärpät and 11th-place TPS. After Nurmi scored, Penguins prospect Filip Lindberg exited the net, making way for Oskar Autio. Minutes later, Ritchie, having already served two minors, reached a breaking point.
Despite Turku securing a 5-3 victory, Ritchie's standout performance included 29 penalty minutes, three shots on goal in 8:54 of ice time. Now, the eight-season NHL veteran awaits a meeting with Liiga's disciplinary delegation.
Ritchie's brief yet dramatic stint as a Calgary Flame adds another intriguing chapter to his eventful career.
