New Jersey Devils Explore Two Goaltending Options for Reinforcements

As we approach the All-Star break, teams in playoff contention are actively seeking reinforcements, and the New Jersey Devils are no exception, particularly in the goaltending department. Two promising names have emerged in trade talks.

The first candidate is the seasoned John Gibson, a solid netminder still in his prime at 30.

"If, as many are speculating, a trade involving #njdevils is in the works, my money would be on #FlyTogether goalie and Pittsburgh native, John Gibson, heading back east to join the Devils."

On the flip side, there's 24-year-old Cayden Primeau from the Montreal Canadiens.

"I would point out that if it isn't Gibson, and the Devils decided to go cheaper and younger, #GoHabsGo goalie Cayden Primeau makes sense. Tom Fitzgerald scouted Primeau plenty of times when he worked for #LetsGoPens and Primeau was at Northeastern."

The Canadiens, in the midst of a rebuild, currently have three goalies on their roster. With Samuel Montembeault taking the lead, Primeau and veteran Jake Allen emerge as potential trade assets. While Primeau has shown improvement this season after earlier struggles in the NHL, his experience is limited to 28 games. In contrast, Gibson brings a wealth of experience but also comes with a higher price tag. With the Devils just one point shy of a wild card spot in the East, the urgency for a goaltending move is evident. Time is of the essence for the Devils front office to make a decision.
