Former Stanley Cup Champion forced to take professional tryout to keep NHL career alive
National Hockey League training camps are set to begin in under a month. For the players remaining on the free agent market that means looking at every remaining opportunity and seeing what's best for them. For some of those players that will mean being forced to take a professional tryout instead of a guaranteed deal.
That's exactly what former Stanley Cup Champion, Alex Chiasson has elected to do. Earlier this week it was announced that Chiasson has signed a professional tryout to try and make the Boston Bruins this fall.
Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, August 21, that the team has signed forward Alex Chiasson to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO).
Chiasson has played 651 NHL games, scoring 120 goals and 113 assists. This opportunity could provide some much-needed depth to the Bruins. This is likely a make or break moment for Chiasson, who split last season between the Detroit Red Wings and their American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.
