While it's still early in the season, teams are already looking to bolster weaknesses in their roster. Doing just that, the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins have just completed a trade with each team sending two players the other way.
In the trade, the Pittsburgh Penguins receive defender Jack Rathbone and forward Karen Plasek, while the Vancouver Canucks acquire defender Mark Friedman and forward Ty Glover.
The biggest player in the trade is the now-Canuck Jack Rathbone. For the Vancouver Canucks, the team is hoping this trade will revamp their defence core by moving on from him in favour of Mark Friedman.
"I would like to thank Jack for all the time he spent with our organization and always pushing hard when competing for a spot. It has been a tough couple of years for him and this will give him a fresh start. The two players coming back in this trade will add to our depth as we continue to look at ways to improve our organization."
The Penguins have already announced that Rathbone will join their AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, while Plasek will report to their ECHL affiliate.
