The New York Islanders have held their cards close to the vest since Lou Lamoriello took over as GM. It's been tough to get any information out of the team since then, but this week, we do have some news to report, straight from Lamoriello himself.
There was some speculation throughout the summer that Zach Parise had signed a new deal with the Islanders that had not been announced publicly. The rumour came about because of a similar situation last summer. Today, however, Lamoriello confirmed that's simply not the case, as reported by Arthur Staple of The Athletic.
Parise, 39, is certainly nearing the end of his NHL career. Should we interpret Lou's report on Parise to mean that he's going to announce his retirement? I don't know if I'd make that assumption just yet, but it could be trending in that direction. I'm sure that we'll have an update on Parise before too long, as the rumours are going to begin to circulate until the hockey world receives an official update.
