The KHL, considered the second-best professional hockey league after the NHL, has been a platform for talent worldwide since its founding in 2008.
Currently, two players from the KHL, Nikita Yevseyev and Damir Zhafyarov of Kazan Ak-Bars, are taking legal action to terminate their contracts. Both players, who have not seen any ice time this season, claim unfair treatment by their coach.
Yevseyev, a sixth-round pick of the Oilers in 2022, made his KHL debut last season, recording 5 goals and 7 points in 48 games. Their agent, Shumi Babaev, has filed a lawsuit with the KHL, citing discrimination by the coach as the reason for contract termination.
If successful, Yevseyev, the 19-year-old Oilers prospect, could potentially make the jump to North America or continue his career with another team in his home country.
