Latest update on Phil Kessel has the 36-year-old drawing interest from multiple teams
Phil Kessel is not only a veteran of almost 1300 NHL games, but also a three time Stanley Cup Champion, and the record holder for most consecutive games played. Still, the 36-year-old remains unsigned and has missed the beginning of this season as he awaits an NHL contract.
Kessel has become a bit of a journeyman, having spent time in Boston, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Arizona and Vegas during his decorated NHL career. Now, it appears as though he may be adding another NHL city to his checklist.
According to new reports from NHL insider David Pagnotta, two teams are greatly interested in Kessel, and are looking to clear cap space to add him to the roster immediately. On Monday, Pagnotta's report on Kessel had read as follows:
"Kessel has two legitimate options right now that are both contingent on those teams moving out money before bringing him in.
My understanding is Kessel is healthy and ready to join a team as soon as a deal can be ironed out. Unfortunately, for him, he has to play the waiting game."
On top of having stacked up a lot of postseason hardware in recent years, Kessel has also earned a reputation for being a very popular teammate in the locker room. The most recent player to praise Kessel as someone he has enjoyed playing with is the reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault. With the reputation he has built, I'm sure he'll fit in just fine wherever he ends up.
