When Alex Ovechkin broke into the league during the 2005-06 season he was a bright eyed, young Russian ready to take over the NHL. 19 seasons later the now 38 year old, has grey in his hair and beard but still having a blast.

Following a Capitals preseason game, Ovechkin was serving as an interpreter for rookie Ivan Miroshnichenko. During the interview, a reporter revealed the rookie was born in 2004 the same year Ovechkin was drafted into the NHL.

Ovechkin joked, «Jesus, I'm old.»

The Washington captain was impressed with Miroshnichenko who recorded two assists and was named the second star of the game in the Caps 4-3 win versus the Red Wings.

«Two assists, he have pretty good chances. First period was emotional for him, but the second one and third I think he realize what's happening and I think he played a good game.«It's great to see. The boys coming up, ready for camp. I think for them it's very important to get that experience with me, Oshie, Backy. It's good lesson, but little step forward.»

Ovechkin is a slam dunk Hall of Fame nominee when his time comes. After another 40 goals last season, the former 1st overall pick in 2004 has 822 for his career. He is currently chasing down "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky's goal scoring record of 894. If Ovechkin can keep up his goal scoring pace he should be able to reach the feat in two more seasons.
