After Travis Dermott defied the NHL recently by using in-game the newly banned Pride tape, an NHL agent has come forward to share thoughts on the situation from other top-end players he represents.
"Hearing many more NHL players are planning to challenge Gary Bettman's pride tape ban in the coming days. The first was last night. The symbolism of Pride Tape is 'Everyone is welcome.'" - Alan Walsh
On the other hand, the NHL doesn't sound pleased with Dermott, and weren't expecting this level of backlash from the players. League officials told reporters yesterday that they would be investigating Dermott, but no punishment has been dealt and it's not clear if he could even be assessed one.
This season, the NHL made an extremely cowardly decision to ban all specialty jerseys and equipment in an attempt to rid itself from backlash from a few players who refused to wear the Pride jerseys last season. Now, the players that Walsh represents, who bring in close to $175 million in NHL contracts including Jonathan Huberdeau, Marc-Andre Fleury, and more - could be gearing up to also defy the policy with Pride tape of their own.
