It will be an important season for the New York Rangers, who came up short of expectations last season, losing in the 1st round of the playoffs, suffering elimination at the hands of the New Jersey Devils. Unfortunately, the season hasn't gotten off to a good start after one of their key players suffered an apparent injury this weekend.

The Rangers' top line center, Mika Zibanejad, left the scrimmage game this morning favouring his arm. He appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain and was accompanied to the locker room by a trainer. He would not return.
"Oh, boy. Not sure exactly how it happened, but they just had to stop play because Mika Zibanejad was hunched over in pain. Looked like he was favoring his right arm and went to the bench very gingerly. He's off to the locker room.

Predictably, no sign of Mika to start the second period. Even if he's fine, can't imagine any reason to put him back out there." - Vince Mercogliano on Zibanejad

Obviously, it goes without saying that an injury to Zibanejad would be a tough way to begin the season. The Metropolitan Division will have a lot of competition this year, with the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils once again expected to hold down the top two spots. There's also the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins to consider as potential playoff challengers. The Columbus Blue Jackets made a number of solid moves this summer and could take a step this year, and the New York Islanders seem to always be in the hunt.
Hoping for the best for Zibanejad here.
