Tragic news as hockey player passes away at 33-years-old
Today tragic news emerged out of Canada that veteran ice hockey player Mike Hammond was killed in a car accident last night.
According to sources the accident happened in Shawnigan, though full details have not been confirmed at this time.
Hammond had a passion for hockey and dreamed of playing in the NHL. When that didn't work out Hammond took his passion overseas and carved out a very European hockey career. This morning Hammond's team confirmed his death in a statement on their website, sharing that the club is devastated.
Our thoughts too are with all his former team-mates and everyone at the club is thinking of Hammy and his family right now.
Rest in peace Mike - you will never be forgotten.
Hammond, 33, played for Great Britain at both the 2019 and 2021 IIHF World Championships. Hammond began his career in 2015 and went on to play for nine teams before joining the Nottingham Panthers in August of last year.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's family and friends in this difficult time.
