Back on August 29th, Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau were tragically killed by a drunk driver while they were riding their bicycles near their hometown of Salem, New Jersey.
The suspect, Sean Higgins, is currently in jail and was recently denied bail. Furthermore, he is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Overall, fans cannot begin to fathom the tragedy that occurred that night. It has sparked numerous tributes, and with the NHL season commencing in a few weeks from now, we will surely see more tear-jerking ceremonies.
Now, the two brothers will be honored by their hometown arena, the Hollydell Ice Arena, in New Jersey. The "Futures" ring will now be renamed "The Gaudreau Rink." As you can see in the tweets below, there were numerous shrines made at the arena following their deaths. Consequently, it makes a lot of sense to honor the two brothers in this way.
This is an incredible and classy tribute that is going to go a very long way in the community. After all, the Gaudreau brothers meant so much to so many people and their legacy will forever live on in New Jersey. In fact, their legacy will live on everywhere as they impacted the game of hockey to the best of their ability.
