Former Penguins forward and two-time Stanley Cup champion Tom Kuhnhackl has signed a contract extension with Adler Mannheim of Germany's DEL.

The Adler Mannheim have announced contract extensions for four players: forwards Matthias Plachta, Tom Kuhnhackl, who won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Maxi Heim, and defenseman Hayden Shaw. They will all stay with the team beyond this season.
Matthias Plachta is continuing his great career. The 34-year-old joined Mannheim's youth program and has always played professionally for the Adler, except for one season in North America.
The 2018 Olympic silver medalist has played more than 750 games for Mannheim, is considered one of the club's all-time greats, and holds franchise records for both goals and assists.
The strong scorer has scored two goals and twelve assists in 19 games this season.

What Tom Kuhnhackl has been a part of since 2023

Former Penguin Tom Kuhnhackl has worn an Adler jersey since 2023 and has been a part of the leadership group since then.
The 33-year-old son of hockey legend Erich Kuhnhackl is an exemplary role model with 290 NHL games and two Stanley Cup championships.

Why Tom Kuhnhackl was signed to an extension

This season, the fourth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2010 has one goal and six assists after nine games, adding to his value, hence the signing.
Maximilian Heim came to Mannheim from Berlin in 2024 and fills one of the club's U23 roster spots. Native to Stuttgart, he's compiled seven goals and eleven assists across 80 total contests for the Adler.
Hayden Shaw joined Adler this season from league rival Nurnberg, where he spent three seasons.
The 29-year-old German-American is considered an extremely team-oriented player who even filled in as a forward at times in recent weeks. We wish all these players continued success ahead.
