Former Penguins Goalie Louis Domingue Unexpectedly Leaves the NHL

Former goalie of the Penguins, Louis Domingue, has unexpectedly decided to leave the NHL and head overseas to sign in the KHL with Sibir Novosibirsk.
Former Penguins goalie Louis Domingue has signed a one-year deal with Sibir Novosibirsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), the team announced.
The Quebec native and 33-year-old spent most of the 2024-25 campaign with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, serving as Dylan Garand's backup.
Louis Domingue posted a .896 save percentage and a 3.32 goals-against average in 28 regular-season games.
He also played one game with the New York Rangers, stopping 25 shots in a 6-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 5.
Domingue has played for seven NHL teams in his career
Domingue has played 151 NHL games during a journeyman career with the Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Rangers. He has played 232 AHL games.
Most prominently, he was the NHL Rookie of the Month for January 2016 during his time with the Coyotes.
With Tampa Bay, he set a franchise record by winning 11 games in a row during the 2018-19 season, a record that was later surpassed by Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Domingue is Sibir's third confirmed signing for next season, after forward Scott Wilson, a former Pittsburgh Stanley Cup champion in his fourth KHL season, and American defenseman David Farrance, who suited up in Finland last season.
The 2025-26 KHL campaign begins on September 5. Sibir opens its season at home on September 7 against Amur Khabarovsk.
