Jacob Markstrom was traded to the New Jersey Devils but the Toronto Maple Leafs were also involved, find out why he didn't go there below.

Goalie Jacob Markstrom isn't a Toronto Maple Leaf; an insider has disclosed why he was just traded to the New Jersey Devils. You would be correct if you assumed it had anything to do with Brad Treliving.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom was moved to the New Jersey Devils a few days ago for a hefty sum, but why isn't he with the Toronto Maple Leafs when rumors surfaced that the Leafs made a comparable offer? It's as simple as who works at their front office.

Eliotte Friedman claims that the Maple Leafs made a similar offer to New Jersey's for Markstrom, but since Treliving is now in Toronto, the offer had to be extremely high for the Flames to accept their former general manager.

The Leafs' reported offer for now-Devils goalie Jacob Markstrom was comparable to the one the Devils made, but due to politics,' the Leafs' offer had to have been way better than anyone else's to get a deal done.

The Flames' reluctance to do business with their former general manager is the cause of the "politics" as previously noted; in fact, this was a major factor in Markstrom's decision to move to New Jersey.

I don't think it's appropriate for "politics" to control player trades, but I also can't say I blame the Flames organization for not wanting to deal with the Leafs given the circumstances.
